Are there other vegetables like that? Probably.

One texture I really notice is waterchestnuts in a stir-fry. Always crunchy. Always a pleasant surprise to bite into.Momnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1086764876629036045.post-43893505167093821512011-01-11T09:46:30.180-05:002011-01-11T09:46:30.180-05:00I certainly don't deny that most people care a...I certainly don't deny that most people care a lot about taste, texture and presentation. Food and the rituals and expectations surrounding eating are important in our society, they just have very little meaning to me in particular. That isn't a recommendation nor a condemnation, just a fact.Skyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10723733406348223879noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1086764876629036045.post-58510047968206007612011-01-11T09:23:21.457-05:002011-01-11T09:23:21.457-05:00In the states there are some prisons that are usin...In the states there are some prisons that are using bland food as punishment for misbehaving prisoners. It's called nutraloaf, and basically it's chicken and vegetables with some other things all blended up and then baked in one big blob.

It's got nothing unusual in it, and it is completely nutritious, but more than one lawsuit has attempted to challenge serving it as unconstitutional "cruel and unusual punishment."

Here's a food critic review of it:

http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/September-2010/Dining-Critic-Tries-Nutraloaf-the-Prison-Food-for-Misbehaving-Inmates/Sthennohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05429676469805661834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1086764876629036045.post-50315781573929945922011-01-10T23:45:33.053-05:002011-01-10T23:45:33.053-05:00Baconshake!

And there could be a number of reasons...
1) I suspect you're often distracted while eating... and it could be simply thinking about other things. If you're concentrating on dinner, then you notice more of the finer details.

2) I don't think you've actually tried putting food into a blender. You have to try it to really understand.

3) Eating food is mostly about experiences. You remember a particularly memorable meal with pleasure and so preparing the dish brings back those memories.Bungnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1086764876629036045.post-15938966691879546032011-01-10T16:58:26.886-05:002011-01-10T16:58:26.886-05:00I have to side with the children on this one.
