Somehow the word "literally" is taken to be magical and beyond fictional use - unlike every other word in the English language it cannot be used to exaggerate or as a metaphor.<br /><br />Take a look at other words we use to emphasize:<br /><br />Really - clearly an adverb form of the word "real"<br />Very - that "ver" is the same "ver" as in "verily." It means "true."<br /><br />There is a natural progression of all words that mean true or real or actual into words that mean "much so."
